SHOTGUN STRATEGIES 2 Day Course
Shotguns have been around for a long time. Explorers to the New World often armed themselves with a Blunderbuss stoked with a heavy charge of black powder & 20-30 OO sized lead shot.
The Blunderbuss was a Flintlock smoothbore / shotgun approximately 70 caliber that is famous for use by the Pilgrims. Buck & Ball was a popular load in Colonial America. Muskets were the long arm of the day and the multi projectile load was very effective shooting game or fending off frontier enemies.
Settlers, Frontiersmen, even early Postal Carrier soften used buck & ball in their muskets.
As percussion ignition in firearms obsoleted flintlock ignition, side by side shotguns became popular. More uniform shot sizes were developed. During this period, (1820s-1840s) percussion shotguns became a common dual purpose longarm to American Citizens. Again, the powerful close range effectiveness of a shotgun was valued by those that need a, “working gun.”
Advancements in ammunition technology such as the paper shot shell made the development of repeating shotguns possible. Several designs were marketed by American Gun Companies.
But, the one that dominated is the Winchester 1897 Pump. Designed by John Browning, the 1897 had no peer as the premier fighting shotgun for a long time.

Requirements:
- A reliable Shotgun (it can be a pump, semi auto, even a double barrel) If Double Barrel, you are going to be running fast & hard in firing drills! 🙂
- 12 Gauge is great. 20 Gauges are fine too.
- 150-200 Rounds of 7.5 or 8 shot. (MUST BE LEAD) NO STEEL SHOT
15-20 Rounds of Buckshot 00, 1 Buck, 3Buck, 4 Buck are fine
10-15 rounds of slugs
- Eye & Ear Protection
4 Sling for your Shotgun
- Water, Food, Appropriate Clothing,
- Pistol, Holster, Magazine Pouch, 50 Rounds of Ammunition
